Challenge yourself? Big News!

I like to think I live by the mantra “If it scares you – do it!”

In the past this has been running 10km, flying to Amsterdam to meet a friend on my own, going back to university at 25, so with that I would like to introduce you to my new challenge :

Swimming 22 Miles – The length of the English Channel- for Aspire the Spinal Injuries Charity, as every eight hours someone is paralysed by a Spinal Cord Injury and there is currently no cure.

I have 12 weeks in which to complete the challenge, but I’m aiming to do it in 10 with 2 weeks as a contingency plan. Here’s the scary bit – it is 1686 lengths of the pool and that works out to 168 lengths per week.

So I am a real life Dory – Just keep swimming. I start on the 12th of September and I am so excited to start, just to prove to myself that I can complete this challenge.

Small victories 

So I went and saw the nurse today, and the results where good.

The appointment was at 2:40pm so because I’m a superstitious kinda person I didn’t eat or drink before I went to the nurse – because of course that banana is going to add a stone to my weight! 

So I was starving which always puts me in a happy mood, but I had lost weight, 5lbs in the month which meant that I could continue with the orlistat if I wanted to. 

I explained the nurse that I wasn’t sure if it was making me ill- I constantly have stomach ache (either dull or really strong) and I don’t think they are working most of the time. We agreed that I could take a month or two off them and see if it was making me ill. So little victories!!! I’ll keep you posted as to how I get on and tomorrow is slimming world weigh day, here’s to a hopeful loss! 

Syns Syns Baby!

Syns! Syns! SYNS!!! if your following slimming world you get syns, which can be used for the naughty but nice’s of the world…that chocolate bar at lunch, or the coffee with friends or the piece of birthday cake that you just cant refuse.

Any one who has ever done slimming world will know that Syns, are both a blessing and a curse. A blessing because they allow you to eat the treats, you can save them up for a special occasion or the weekend, or use flexible syns if you chose. Some people have their syns all worked out for the week pencilled into their meal plans so that they know what they are doing. Personally I’m not that organised, I go on a day by day basis and I think this is what the majority of people do.

So how are they are curse?  Well, if you have 15 syns for the day and the total of the syns you want to use is 17….thats 2 over, do you take the 2 off tomorrow and just have 13??? or let those 2 slide?

The problem with letting them slide is that it can become a habit, “oh its only 2 syns, it doesn’t matter”. but all those 2 syns add up, if I let 2 syns slide every day by the end of the week that is a total of 14!! 14!!! that is a whole day’s worth of syns.

So here comes the question, what do you use your syns for? 

Personally, I try to add mine to my meals, I’m not a big chocolate eater, I’m more of a bread girl…I can devour entire loves in minuets, its a talent I give you that.  So I have extra bread, or a pitta with my tea, but I’m open to ideas, so hit me with them!download

 

 

Only A Little Bit Of Fat

Yeah you read that right, I lost only a little bit of fat this week….1.5lbs to be precise! And I’m chuffed about it.

That right there, is lbs of fat and I lost half of that again….My total thus far is 1st 12lbs of it….its gone, gone for good.

The thing about little losses is that they are/can be consistent, which is great because it means each week I am moving closer to where I want to be – the only issue here is that I have no idea where I want to be. How did you all decide? Was it a clothes size or a weight that you chose?

So next week I would rather like my 2st Award but hey if I dont get it, its not the end of the world….theres always the week after its just important that I keep moving in the right direction.

 

21 Meals

Some on in our group once compared meals to flowers, that if you had 21 flowers in a vase and 1 died, you would not throw the bunch away. So, there is 21 meals in a week, and if you mess up, you don’t continue eating like that all week, you just get back on plan at the next meal.

This is how I like to think of eating. I take each meal as it comes. I was completely off plan on Sunday, mainly because I was out for the day in the middle of the country side and some times finding something that is SW friendly to eat can be a bit of a pain. The answer to this was just to pick the best of the bunch and then be back on plan as soon as I can be. If I do not loose this week, well I am not all that bothered, I’ve had lovely family time and enjoyed myself.

I’m also rather happy because I have one appointment left with the health trainer and then I can be signed off, I just don’t gel with the woman. She does not seem to have much of a sense of humour or want to engage in conversation. But they have just changed the rules for the tablets and you have to see a health trainer to get them, so need to see the nurse because I have done the 12 weeks. Also its a tad annoying being weighed at the health trainer every week, slimming world every week and then once a month at the nurse. I honestly feel that I am constantly on the scales!

 

Convenience

Most of us all love convenience food, either pick it up through a drive through or bang it in the microwave for 12 mins and we are fed, YIPPIEE!!!

For me, I’ve never ate microwave meals it wasn’t something that appealed to me, I would of rather have a sandwich than the zappy burger, and meals for one when I’m on my own have never grabbed my attention. The thing with slimming world though is if your just eating for one, it can be a bit of a faff on. Even if I make salad it takes forever to chop it all up, boil eggs, and some times I just want something to eat.

Yeah I can pick up a salad from a lovely sandwich shop in town, that has nothing added to it, but I’m even to lazy at times to drive there. So with this in mind, I thought I would try out some of the slimming world and Iceland range. Now I know I am late to the party with these meals but here is my 2p worth.

So far I’ve tried the meatballs, the chicken tikka and the chicken sagg, not a massive range but one thing stands out for me in their range : WHAT IS WITH ALL THE MUSHROOMS. People have a love hate relationship with mushrooms, kinda like Marmite, but most of the range seems to have them in which has limited choices me. The chicken Sagg for instance, I tried to pick on with very few of them in. The tikka was nice, but a little watery and after eating it my partner said he preferred mine, that boy sure knows how to sweet talk a girl. The meatballs where nice, we made spaghetti bolognese  out of them and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

The weight loss thus far has been slow, 1.5lbs my first week, followed by a 1lb gain and another loss this week of 1lb, I wasn’t expecting a lot but I had hoped for more, just  a tad disappointing when your giving it you all.

Mixed

I hate going to the Dr’s to discuss my weight,  it takes me weeks to build up the confidence just to go and speak to them. Previous experience has given me the expectation that they don’t care or see me being there as a bit of a joke.

 

So knowing that it was going to take me a while to build myself up to this, I booked an appointment 3 weeks ago, so that everyday I could talk myself into it. Even this morning I was going to cancel. I made sure when I booked the appointment it was with a female Dr that I felt comfortable with. I didn’t know what I wanted but help, not sure what the help was that I wanted though. The question didn’t help when she asked me what I wanted as I honestly didn’t know.

The appointment was thoroughly awful, she was asking me what exercise I did and told me that I need to do more (I already knew this), that in order to get any sort of help from them I need to loose at least 1 1/2 st, and that she would refer me to a exercise programme and just to be on the safe side check my bloods again for thyroid problems and diabetes. Oh and they will put me in their weight management clinic.

I’m not sure what I feel about all of this. As stated earlier I went in not knowing what I wanted, but 1 1/2st is a lot to loose, and I’m well aware of the amount of weight I have to loose. Now all I can think about is that number. This time though she seemed to take my concerns seriously, especially since I’ve gained 2 1/2st in 2 months and all this with out changing what I eat.
